Book a flight with just a photo. Award-winning, AI-led innovation for easyJet
CHALLENGE
easyJet wanted to encourage their customers to transform their daydreams into experiences and came to Bernadette for some innovative new ideas of how to make this possible.
APPROACH
We needed to explore how consumers currently booked flights, and how they searched for holiday inspiration. Customer journey mapping work alongside fresh consumer insight revealed a tension that the majority of booking processes were convoluted, and completely detached from the source of inspiration for many younger travellers - platforms such as Instagram.
Our breakthrough brought these together to create Look & Book - a unique service that allows consumers to upload screenshots of their desired destination to the easyJet app, and book a flight directly. The service finds a consumer’s closest airport, and pre-populates the booking form with those details so it really is as simple as booking a flight with just a photo. We used advanced image recognition technology and Microsoft Azure API to match the photo to an easyJet destination. The plug-in integrates seamlessly into the easyJet mobile app on both Android and iOS, and handles the entire transaction.
IMPACT
Dubbed the ‘Shazam of travel’, Look & Book is now in the pocket of 1m+ people using the easyJet app across 5 markets, and went on to win multiple awards across both the airline industry and beyond. From the spark of an idea, to launching out into the world, in just 12 weeks.
